Way way back in the day I was all about drum & bass. It’s how I got started as a DJ, playing at bars and small clubs in NYC starting around 2000. Back then there was a weekly drum & bass event EVERY SINGLE NIGHT OF THE WEEK. In MANHATTAN. It was nuts. Konkrete Jungle Mondays, Camouflage Tuesdays, Liquids Wednesdays, Jungle Nation Thursdays, Physics Fridays, Direct Drive Saturdays, and Testpress Sundays.

Eventually I started playing other music, in a windy path that led me to what I play now. But I never really lost a soft spot for the soulful and funky side of D&B. Now in the last year or so I’ve fallen back in love with it big time.

The boys and girls at Driven AM, who are keeping drum & bass alive in NYC, invited me to do an old-school D&B set back in January of this year opening for Dieselboy, and since then I’ve just gone deeper down the rabbit hole.

This mix is a love letter to drum & bass that I’ve found from the past 10 or so years, with a few classic gems sprinkled in there. If you’ve never checked out drum & bass, or have a preconceived notion of it being dark, heavy, druggy, hit-you-over-the-head rave music, I hope this mix will change your mind a little bit.
